New Rules from 2021
In order to free up dring test examiners to do HGV test to help reduce the shotage of HGV drivers the Government have announced new rules.
Full details here: New 2021 trailer towing rules. In short this puts people who past their car driving test since 1997 in the same possition as thos who passed it before that date but you should go to the .gov page to check how it affects you.
What will change later in 2021If you passed your car driving test from 1 January 1997, you’ll be allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM when the law changes.
DVLA will update your driving licence record to show that you’re allowed to tow trailers. You’ll get category BE added to your driving licence when you get a new photocard driving licence.
You do not need to contact DVLA for this to happen. It will be done automatically.
